Desde 2022, Narrative Collaborative ha estado trabajando en conjunto para desarrollar una nueva narrativa, una que enaltezca y represente el tapiz completamente diverso de personas en este lugar que llamamos hogar.
Estamos cambiando la historia
IT IS TIME for an empowered, fair, and just Long Island for everyone. It is time to undo harm caused by all oppression; to uplift suppressed voices and needs of those not prioritized. It is time for a Long Island that acknowledges and supports the fully diverse tapestry of people in this place we call home. WE ARE LONG ISLAND.
For too long, centers of power on Long Island have isolated us and systematically separated us from each other. The deep colonial, white supremacist, and religious histories here are ones of violence, stolen land, erased cultures, and structures designed to thwart fully inclusive community-driven stewardship. It is an ongoing harm that is upheld with intention - through neglect, subjugation, aggression, and abuse. It affects the everyday lives of people in our communities and warps the public story of who we are - creating a false narrative of misinformation, outright lies, and lack of awareness.
It is time for all of us to change that.
We are here on Long Island together. We are Black, Indigenous, Asian, Islanders, Latinx, Multiracial, White. We are People with disabilities. We are Transgender, Cisgender, Binary, Non-Binary, Intersex. We are Muslim, Jewish, Christian, Buddhist, spiritual, Atheist. We are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer, Asexual, allies. We are Immigrants, we are Refugees. We are People who are or have been incarcerated. We are Environmentalists. We are Advocates. We are Artists. We are Academics. We are neurodivergent People. We are Workers. We are People with a low-income. We are People with food insecurity. We are People living with physical and mental health issues, and invisible disabilities. We are People with housing insecurity. We are Unhoused. We live and work in Rural, City, and Suburban communities. We communicate in many languages. We are Youth. We are Elders. We are Families.

Somos Long Island.
Nou Se Long Island.

WE ARE LONG ISLAND.
We imagine an empowered, fair, and just Long Island that’s possible. We believe in it and envision how it can work. We are the people who already uplift unheard voices. We undo the harm caused by racism, xenophobia, transphobia, homophobia, islamophobia, antisemitism, ableism, erasure - all oppression. We are the fiber of Long Island. And we are the people with the creativity, knowledge, and experience to find the best solutions for our own and intertwined communities.
In this moment, we come together as a movement to combine our power and raise a collective voice. We are aligning our values and addressing common issues. Together we will educate, we will build awareness, we will organize inside each of our communities. We will activate our individual powers and we will support each other for a shared-power that cannot be ignored. We know and affirm that in our diversity we will find strength. We will find solutions. We will find a path forward that supports everyone.
We are an unstoppable force of solidarity. We commit to this vision together.
